I would go with the Au55-58 grade range. I would be more enthusiastic if my 1921 Peace I was sure was a MS63 or better had not came back slabbed as AU-58. [;(]

The photos make this a bit difficult. It is hard to tell whether it is wear on a few high spots or just sheen from the photograph. I have always thought Peace dollars are a tough grade -- the PCGS example you include seems to have more bag marks but not the carbon spots. Also, there seems to be a difference in strike (again, maybe that is wear but it is tough to tell). I would say AU55 if wear, MS63 if not. |

Gee, when compared to the PCGS I'd give it a VF-20  Only kidding!! There does seem to be some ware on the high spots. AU55  |

From what I can make out in the picture, it would seem this coin is a slider AU-55 to AU-58. Sliders can often have more eye appeal than low MS coins (less contact marks), as I believe this to be the case here when compared to the PCGS ms64.

I'd say AU-55 for the coin too from the pitures, but I previously was grading the PCGS coin. I disagree with the grade of MS-64, it looks like a slider from the picture as well.

Hmmph  I really think the "matte" finish on this is throwing off the grading. I think this is a decent MS coin. Relatively high too. Maybe 64 or even higher. I can't quite tell if tose are hits on the rays by dollar, or just some remnants of luster. The field on the obverse is awesome. I'm struggling to see the wear. I think the "look" of wear compared to the PCGS example is just a matter of the finish. Of course, I could be way off here. Is this a graded coin? |

scubu- I find that slabbing to be a little odd in that the coin is rotated in the holder. Is it common for coins to come back slabbed in such a way?

Is it common for coins to come back slabbed in such a way?Not common, but it happens. scubu, the reason I think the coin has seen light wear is from the complete lack of detail on the upper part of eagles right wing, especially if you compare it to the pcgs sample. Peace dollars are not my forte, and I can't make out enough of the obverse to be sure. FWIW, your coin has FAR superior eye appeal than the pcgs coin, and I quite like it.

Is it common for coins to come back slabbed in such a way? if you hit the slab on the table on the corner you can get them to turn, the older PCGS holders (some call them clackers)were bad about it before they started using the rings but they can still turn in they have been banged around either in shipment or some other way but they can be tapped until they are turned back the way they should be if you try |
