2019-S San Antonio Missions Quarter

These "Dimples" run from the L in DOLLAR to the E in WE.

What are they? Collar Clash? Design Extension Dimples? OR?

I'd think a collar clash would show raised on the coins design rim. A DED seems to be a different anomaly as well.

I'm wondering if a bit of the coins edge design could creep (flow) into the current path of the rim design during the multi strike process? Thanks, Doug.

It maybe from Machine Doubling? Note the devices. It may have damaged the rim after the strike?

Interesting! I ordered 8 sets of these to use as Christmas gifts for my children and grandchildren.

Every San Antonia Missions Quarter has this feature!

I know the sample is too small to draw any conclusions, but I would be interested to know if anyone finds one WITHOUT it!

If the impressions including location are identical on all of them, I'd think they were a product of the die. They seem to be impressions on the coin from my end. Unless the die / collar clash was polished out. I thought a collar clash would typically show raised on the coin. Thanks, Doug.

Doug - I had been thinking "collar clash", but I am not so sure. These areas are identical on all sets and are impressions on the coin. They match up with the trough between the reeds.

They are reminiscent of "Design Extension Dimples" but do not seem to fit the definition which has been offered so far.

See this link for reference:

Thanks for your comments.

I just heard from Mike Diamond. He thinks this is most likely a collar clash.
