I know there's a reported crack in that area of the house, is that it?

I think it's a lamination problem.

First,

Assuming you have a 2015-P Homestead quarter, you likely have a known Interior Die Break. It appears to be IDB-25c-2015P-02R (HNM), Stage 2A.

It would be helpful to see photos of the entire coin, one for the obverse and one for the reverse.
