Okay this one again is an Uncirculated coin. It has a bunch of Spider cracks both sides - not sure if they mean anything.

In addition to that there are a couple of other marking that I don't know if they are of consequence.

Would appreciate your assistance.

Marking inside upper part of O (MM)

2nd 8 a diagonal dash upper circle

Thank you

It has a lot of die cracks and a die clash (2nd to last picture). Here is a good picture overlaying the obverse and reverse that shows what caused the die clash (Cap Vee from obverse). In the right picture, you can see how the Cap Vee would have transferred to the reverse die and left that mark next to the right of the eagles wing.

It might be some sort of VAM. This is a link to the VAMS for 1884-0.

Thanks Jadey - I have been on VAM World all day - it blows my mind!! These are not anything like my LC's that I usually search. My lack of knowledge with the Morgans leave me not knowing what to look for in the descriptions. Each each has a ton

Thanks for your reply

@CoinCents Yeah, I struggle with these VAMS as well. VAMWorld has some pages that are really well organized and easy to search. Others are really difficult to navigate. Someone is putting a lot of time into that site, but it is clearly a work in progress.

For 1884-O, I would choose "Sort by Date Position" and look at Far Date or Very far Date (yours seems to be right on the edge of the two) and Oval O.

I just realized that does not narrow it down much. If you can nail down the date position, that would be the biggest help. Also figure out if its O/O.

Thank you for the assistance with tricks to narrowing it down.

Okay pretty sure it is the Very far date now.

No Doubled MM

Looking at VAM 19A and 19B for matches (leaning more twords 19B right now)

Is there a diagram some where on CCF of the Morgans? A lot of these reference specific die markers for stars but I don't know which stars are which. Edit: Found answer to my question - here is a link from google http://www.1881o.com/features.html
Thought I would share it just in case some other Morgan Newbies view my post

Thanks

Got it 1884-O VAM-19A I will post more of the die markers to get your confirmation

Edit: This should be the last of the photos needed for the die markers.

Just curious in this VAM there is no mention of the Clash - is it irrelevant for this attribution?

Please confirm or put me in the right direction.

Look at this image from VAMWorld.

And from the reference page.

This area is associated with the transfer of the back of the phrygian cap on the obverse as a greater than sign on the reverse near the top of the right wreath. Likewise, the obverse will show spikes on the back of the phrygian cap. In its most drastic display, the actual wreath may be displayed in the field behind the phrygian cap on the obverse.
This area is typically not associated with VAM listings and may normally be ignored. However, some VAMs that show heavy clashing in this area do carry other attributes and are associated with VAMs. 1886-P VAM-1C is an example of a VAM that makes use of this area.

That's cool - so because they are common on the Morgans it would need to be a really strong clash for any attention. You have been really helpful - Thanks

It seems that strong clashing is not an attribute in and of itself, but can be indicative of additional attributes. I've wondered the same thing, so we both learned something.

When I first started looking at VAMs a couple months ago, I figured it would be pretty straightforward. My experience has been quite the opposite.

These VAM's are very confusing . With Cents that I usually search I look for the error or variety then try to attribute it. With the Morgans I am having a hard time trying to understand what the actual error or variety is and then find the die markers..
