here is a 1970s cent that appears to have a doubled mint mark. Is this unusual and does it cary any kind of premium I paid $14 for the set about three years ago
Sorry about the poor pictures but I don't want to take the cent out of the set unless its something special.

the coin has the dot in C of america which confims it as 1MM-001 I guess without taking it out of the mylar I would guess its grade somewhere between 65 AND 67

Confirmed, you do have 1970S-1MM-001, and it was found in the usual spot for coins made from this die...a mint set. In fact, almost all of the known examples of this repunched mintmark originally came from mint sets.

At present there are somewhere around 250 recorded examples of this die known. I would double that for the many there likely are that were not reported or encapsulated...probably 500 altogether. They don't seem to be very difficult to find and are readily available for $10-$15 in uncirculated grades. An example grading MS66RD would be far less common and would warrant a premium value of $25-$35, while an MS67RD would be more or less unheard of, but if found would be worth in the naighborhood of $75-$100 - possibly more.

I personally have found five of these over the years - three in mint sets, and two more in dealer stock that probably came out of mint sets.
