One of most interesting finds. It was on the high tide line, about 12 inches deep. Would anyone have an idea about how to clean this, or should it be left alone. On one end is the copper coin, other end is a shark tooth. Got to be the find of the century. Thanks for the help and ideas.

I would not touch a thing--just get it into some sort of holder to protect it. I agree that having a coin connected to a tooth is an oddity and anything you might do might separate them. Any chance of you posting a pic of the other side? I'm wondering if we can identify the date.

I will post if you want. Nothing really to see. I was able to get this much, cleaning with my finger.

The coin appears to be a LMC. I suspected a Zincoln, but now that I think of it, a Zincoln after that long in water would've looked a lot worse.

I agree that it should be left as is; it would've been nice if the date was readable, but I wouldn't be very surprised if your finger already scraped it away.

Here my first thought was Spanish! And it turns out to be a Zincoln.

Still, an interesting find and one worth saving.

I recently moved out of Florida. One of my favorite pastimes was collecting sharks teeth in Venice. As a coin collector and shark teeth collector, this is unquestionably the coolest thing I've seen in a while. Congrats on this amazing act of randomness!

Do you realize what all had to happen for a shark tooth to become embedded into the whatever that is that is growing on the coin? As others have suggested, it is a piece of art, put it into a holder to display it. Probably took many many years for that all to mesh together.

Cliff Claven would identify that as a "Piece of 0.01, with optional shark's tooth."

I'd call it "unconscious conceptual art." Maybe it means, "The sharks of this world will try to get even your last penny" or maybe "Shark finally gets just desserts for absconding with victim's last penny."

Have you thought about sending it to a TPGS?
