At first I thought I had a parking lot dime. Then I noticed several die cracks. I'm not even sure what to call the edge.

Exposed to an acidic environment, then run over by a vehicle.

Ok, thanks. It was the multiple cracks that was throwing me. I haven't seen that on other damaged coins.

It was dipped in acid. It's Post Strike Damage ( PSD) and not an error. It's safe to spend.

Certain types of acid affect metals differently. I've seen where it affects one metal and others times affects differently.

Note the affect on the copper cents how one type of acid affected copper. Then note on the image of the quarter, how the silver cladding was only affected with some affect on the copper under the cladding. I feel this coin was laid into a few drops on the surface like glass or something and the obverse side was affected laying in the acid, but not covering the rest of the coin.

Other times the copper on the edges were affected on the edges, but not the cladding. Which acid is which? I don't know.
