Many times, I often cut coin holders in half as they seem to split (Low quality Mylar) and once I put a gleaming halfcrown in one whilst holding it up with one hand. Well I thought I did, the coin was actually behind the holder and went clang on to the table!

Staples and coins don't mix so well I am seeing. This thread is making me cringe!

I work with a towel most time so not an issue if I drop them. BUT, I kid you not I lost at least 3 1937 LWC. ALWAYS the 1937. All in AU/MS. And I can't find them. There is a 1937 black hole in my office. I ended up getting an extra 1937 in case I lose another.

Just before the old, larger size 50p coins were withdrawn in 1998, I got a really nice AU+ 1982 one in change with lots of lustre. I carried it home carefully from the shop wrapped in tissue paper and took it upstairs to compare with the one in my coin album. The coin slipped out of the tissue and I heard it roll down the stairs... Bizarrely, I was in that house for a further 8 years and I NEVER found that coin!

T-bop ended up sending me one (which I'm saving). I wonder if the hole is too big in my Whitman folder. I have an MS one in the Dansco and that one is still in there, but the one in the whitman folder, one day its there, next its gone.

I tried to crack out what I believed was an undergraded 1879-O Morgan in MS63, used some channel locks to crack it and a piece of the hard palstic put a nice new scratch right across Liberty's face.... Now ungradable...

My son dropped an 1894 S Barber dime at the 1994 ANA World's Fair of Money. It was one of three coins handed to him by a show official. The other two coins were an 1804 dollar and a 1913 Liberty nickel.

Did any of them pass the ping tone test?

About 3 weeks ago, I was out on my deck (because of the acetone fumes) cleaning err, conserving an itsy bitsy silver 3 cent piece. I dropped it and horrors! It fell right through the 1/8" crack between the floor boards, and the ground under the deck was covered with dead leaves. It took about 45 minutes to find it, and another hour washing my jeans.

yes, horror...
a few summers ago I bought a handful of goodies from the pawn shop on big pine key, including a 5g bar of palladium. I saw the packaging was cracked open on one end & figured i'd take care of that once I got it home. so I got it home, sat down with it to have a better look & determine what to do. I had only just started to examine & pick at it when the two halves of the packaging just popped open, the 5g bar of palladium suddenly sprang forth like a slo-mo scene from a movie; the thing burst upward at my face, hovered for an eternity (grabbing at it was futile) and then rocketed away, straight to the floor—- PING (initial contact with tile floor)—- ping ping ping (as it danced)... I howled, the cats scurried for cover...
it put one tiny ding on an edge near a corner...
now when I play with coins & things I sit on the floor while working from atop an old army footlocker, surrounded by soft rugs... if anything falls to the floor it doesn't have far to travel and gets a soft landing..
