Hi all -

New to posting here and new to banknotes, but wanted to ask a question. How much do you bank note collectors (Australian notes in particular) care about last prefix issues? If so, what sites do you like to buy/sell on?

I wish I had asked this question to the forum BEFORE submitting my note for auction at GC, but #128532; oh well.

Thanks for your input!

yes they care, but Australian note market is quite depressed. Depends on the if the digits were last or first issued or replacement issue (star note). non-tamper with uncirculated would do okay pricewise.

If it is a Australian ten shilling note 1939 Sheehan/Macfarlane R12L Prefix F24 uncirculated it would sell for between $3000.00-$3500.00 AUD at auction today. Fist prefix no D98 seem to be very hard to find. Check Noble auctions Australia as they did sell a first prefix R12l for $3000.00 plus about 2 years ago. IAG auctions have a pair of R12L as A/UNC for $2000.00 AUD. All Australian predecimal first and last prefix notes in true uncirculated condition are very very hard to find as most are only A/U. Also which auction did you place your note in as I would like to view it and buy if it makes the grade..

Thanks very much for the replies. Being new to currency and in the US means I'm way outta my depth.

I only have circulated examples if Australian notes - I suspect WWII souvenirs. I doubt my modest VF25 will interest you, but it's up on GreatCollections. (Am I allowed/supposed to post a link in reply?).

Well, either I way overestimated interest in a circulated example and/or GreatCollections might have been a poor choice for Australian currency. Ends 4/7/19 PM (GMT -8, I think) and currently 1 bid at $30 US with 2 tracking. Shrug. I'll provide updates Monday after final tallies come in.

Possibly - while ryurazu is right about the market being at a lower part of the cycle I thought it was probably trending upwards.
