I have a nickel that's smooth and blank on the heads side. Trains is there but nothing on the other side. No grind Mark's not just wondering if it's worth anything at all. I'm new to this

@JM665, first welcome to CCF. Second, it isn't physically possible for a nickel to be only struck on one side; however, grease might have filled one side causing the details on this side to be weak. You are right that the most likely scenario is that one side was ground down--perhaps then polished to remove the grinding marks. We will really need to see pics of both sides to help you. Here is a link to the tutorial:

I beleive it is possible, but very improbable. If two planchets would be struck one on top of the other, one would be obverse only and the other, reverse only.

Well there can be a bonding if two planchets were struck together:

The weight would be affected. But this would be very rare.

But on the obverse of your nickel if the rim is flat, then the devices would sanded off. The setup rim should be there if it weren't struck.

Note the setup proto rim that is added to make a blank into a planchet?

So if the obverse is missing the rim, then it was removed. ( PSD)
The weight should be lower than a normal coin if this happen.

Jessica-
Look at the blank side. If the rim is missing, then it has been ground down as you can't have a rim only on one side.
If the rim is there, then you probably have some sort of an error in which case pictures are necessary.
