I was wondering if anyone on here has submitted and received back a 1964 sms coin. Was it through PCGS? Also did you have to have the variety attribution done? The current sms coins on PCGS have SMS under the variety section. Reason is I called asking this question. They told me no variety attribution is needed for 1964 sms. I sent in a 64 half dollar with the exact die marks as the known 64 sms. Tear drop hanging off the 4 on the obverse. Die lines on the reverse off the F, under the A and off the tip of the wing. Squared rims, Broken rays along with a straight G. It did not come back SMS. I guess I am confused. With the exact marks I would think it had to be. I did not have the variety attribution check marked. Maybe this is why?

Variety attribution is for things like a Morgan VAM, or Overton numbers etc. Whether something is a business strike, proof, SMS, special strike is automatic.
