I'm trying to find a site to purchase coin capsules. I've always used the Air-Tite style but I have a couple of display cases given to me that require a capsule with an extension on the edges of the obverse side of the case. It's only a few mm extension but it keeps the capsule upright in a slot in padded velvet slots. I've been searching and all I see are standard capsules. Thanks for any help.
Thanks for the welcomes. Here's a couple of images of the capsules I'm looking for. These are the half dollar size. From the front they look pretty normal but the side view shows the extended edge I need.
Those look like the capsules used for the Apollo Kennedy and the Explore & Discover sets (among others). The flange you see in your pictures on one half of the capsule is trapped between the two laminations of a page meant for coins to be viewed from both sides.
My best guess, anyway. That said, I don't know where to get them and they may be produces especially for the U.S. Mint.
Here's a picture of the top display area of the case. It holds JFK halves. The proofs stand up in the top on an angle using the extra material, or flange, to hold it in the slots. The rest go in draws below and the regular air-tites fit fine there. I'm pretty sure it was a case that came with a set and I believe it was from a company called PCS. I've also seen the same style capsule used on a proof 1985 silver $1 coin from Bermuda in the original case. The display case came to me with some coins in these cases but I need more to complete the top display.
Interesting case... if you have the time/inclination I'd love to see more pictures of it. Including the "draws" (are you from Baahston, by any chance?).
