In the process of cataloging my accumulation of coins I stumbled upon my CCF token.
To my astonishment and dismay it was discolored. I thought at first that it was a toning issue. But upon opening the plastic air-tight I discovered that a three-dimensional crust covered the token. Much like the skin that develops over pudding.
I never opened the plastic before. No reason to due so. So I wonder what could have contaminated it...
Now, I am not devastated by this problem After all my purchase of the token helped in the efforts of the token project. What I am asking for are suggestions as to how to remove the "crust." While the stunning surfaces may suffer in the cleaning process at least I will be able to appreciate the design.
Your suggestions are most appreciated.

Is it possible to show a picture of this issue?
I have one of these myself. The capsules should not cause this? I am sure mine is in the same capsule as your is and for the same length of time.

Have you got the Silver or the Copper?

Hmm weird. My copper one still looks fine. @mv, maybe the capsule is cracked and that let air (and moisture) work on the surface?

This is the copper version.
Cracked plastic is interesting. Note: one side of the token had very little discoloration whereas the other side was totally caked in "crust." The plastic in contact with the crusty side also had some goo on it. I easily cleaned it with water but could not discern a crack.
Now I am wondering if I just put the token in water to see if the coating loosens up.
Cannot do much harm at this point

If that fails, you might want to try acetone.
