Hello All

I was looking through some 1939-D Mercury's and came across this one.
(scan #1)
I think I see a faint "9" just north of the 9 in 1939.
(scan #2)

Do you also see it ? What is it? An error or just an oddity?
Or do I need new glasses?
Thanks for all replies.

Probably just formed by coincidental hits and stains over the years. Kind of like seeing animal shapes in clouds.

and...

The ghostly looking "9" is not a raised device like the numbers in the date, so it was not engraved into the die that made the coin.

You sure don't need glasses if you can find details like this.

See, most people just don't believe in ghosts. That could be a ghost inside the coin trying to tell you something. Like it's age or something like that.
Or just a mark from circulation.

Thank you for your replies.
Also, I am relived to read that you all can see the Nine too.
Otherwise, if I were the only one.......I'd be in big trouble.
