Have any of you bought a coin even though it was marked in some way. Maybe the marks didn't detract or maybe improved the look of the coin. No I am not talking about hobo coins....LOL

Price aside, this will be a very difficult coin to re-sell down the road. Most unattractive disfigurement. to the CCF!

What slab is it in? Looks like marker,I think acetone removes marker. But would it leave a different mark? John1

Coins that are marked up don't have much eye appeal . I would consider buying one only if it were a true rarity at a great price .

That's all right as long as the price was adjusted accordingly. Some kid would love to have that. I wouldn't mind it myself.

I got it for free. It's not marker or ink. It appears to be some sort of thick tar. If the coin was more valuable I would try some sort of conservation. Any suggestions..

xylene might dissolve it, but removing it could reveal some bad scratches

If you got it free it's nice. As for conservation you got 2 options. 1 leave it as is. 2 crack it and give it an acetone bath. What did it grade?

Acetone might remove it, but it looks like there are some deep scratches beneath the marks on the left. Would still be a details coin, not sure if it would be worth the effort.

It graded uncirculated details graffiti. Its not worth sending it in for conservation. I figure this would be a coin I could try to clean myself. If I screw it up I'm not out any money. It is a clean coin. I see no scratches.
