I know what you mean. I almost posted a 1576 Hungarian Denar. When I see coins with BC, I'm going

I really looked into ancient coins when I first collecting but decided that it really wasn't for me. I didn't get that 'feeling' that thats what I wanted to collect. I'm sure all collectors can understand what I'm saying when I talk about that 'feeling'.
Anyways, so my oldest coin would probably have to be my 1857 flying eagle. 150 years old baby!

I guess I'll break out the 1511... Edit... I was thinking about it... but Christopher Columbus was still alive IIRC, when this coin was minted. I have several coins from the 1620s... when the Pilgrims were still hanging out on Plymouth Rock. Here's some German silver from the period.

Just checking if I can read the inscriptions. It's tricky at times.

My oldest is an 1847 8 Maravedis from Spain. Although ElleKitty's has a couple of hundred + years on mine!

Quote: I though Fiat was paper money ? From Wikipedia: Quote: The terms fiat currency and fiat money relate to types of currency or money whose usefulness results, not from any intrinsic value or guarantee that it can be converted into gold or another currency, but only from a government's order (fiat) that it must be accepted as a means of payment.
