Hoping this goes well please forgive me in advance if it doesn't. Was researching my wheats and saw this on the date 1944 on the first 4 looks like extra metal or ?

@beth, first welcome to CCF. Second, as @DE noted above, there is a discrepancy in your title and the coin that you have shown. Assuming that you posted pics of the correct coin, I do see where there has been a little damage to the 4 in the date. This has bent the bottom portion of this digit, but is not a mint error. You still have a Wheat cent, which could have a small premium over face value.

The damage occurred after the coin was struck (minted)...commonly referred to as PMD (Post Minting Damage) or some like to refer to it as PSD (Post Strike Damage).

As explained, it is not an error. It can only be an error if it happens during
the striking of the coin. Anything that happens after that such as your
coin is classed as damage.

wow my mistake 1946 sorry .... the 4 is actually raised not dented in so I am confused

When you look at several examples of the cents of that year, the 46 is weaker. There was a minor hit to the base of the 4, but the issue I mentioned above, is the reason the 46 is weaker.
