This was a nice pickup from a seller who wasn't able to nail down the date (lucky me) -- it's definitely a 1796 and S-87 (R3) variety; this is a later die state with a die crack through the date going diagonally up to the bust, although both the last date digit and the crack are a bit hard to discern in these photos.
The 1796 Liberty Cap cents were the last of the type, which changed to the Draped Bust design midyear.
It seems to have a slightly off-center strike, more noticeable on the reverse.
There are some obvious issues (porosity/roughness) but it retains its originality.
Overall, how would you grade this coin?
(I'm just happy to finally fill one of the last few missing date "holes" in my Large Cent date set; still need 1793, 1795, 1799, 1804, but those are $$$$$$!)
