Nickel Is This Damage? It Looks Doubled

I found this nickel today and it looks doubled on the P. The date is pretty damaged from circulation but could be doubled as well.

Not damage. That's called Die Deterioration Doubling. It's caused by a worn die issue, from striking a ton of planchets at the U.S Mint. http://www.error-ref.com/die-deteri...on-doubling/

How do you tell Die Deterioration? Does it have to do with how spread out the P is?

@ EnV Could the mint mark on the die been filled with some amount of grease to cause the metal that would have been taken up by a complete mint mark flow around it?

To me it's looks like a combination of Die Deterioration and Machine Doubling.
