Short version: People strongly support keeping the penny, according to poll sponsored by "a broad-based coalition of business and charitable organizations dedicated to keeping the penny".
Let's find a poll sponsored by a group dedicated to killing the penny and see how that goes.

It's simply a lie put out by a lobbying group. Questions can be worded to get any desired response. Pennies are more of a burden to the poor than any other group because the poor are far more likely to be saddled with using them. Every time a penny is made or used the country is a little poorer and poor people are more affected. They spend time and effort to use the toxic little slugs. ACC is controlled by zinc interests and others who profit each time a penny is tossed in the trash because its true value is less than its face value. Ask people if they want to keep the penny even though it costs taxpayers Two Cents every time it's used and it benefits only wealthy individuals and see what the results are.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

I think they should keep it but only specially minted like the Kennedy is now.

I think it's really interesting we'd had the penny continuously minted in similar form since 1857 when it was deemed far too expensive to make compared to its intrinsic value and downsized.

"Americans for Common Cents is a broad-based coalition of business and charitable organizations dedicated to keeping the penny."That is all you need to know about that poll right there. Call me when you get an impartial third party to manage the polling.

The penny isn't going anywhere, don't need polls to know that

Polls like this have been done many times and they always have a similar result.
But if the poll subjects are first told that is costs more than the face value to produced and that the government loses more than $50 million every year making cents, the poll results change considerably.

I seldom believe polls. Usually they are compiled by people that want certain results so they only poll those that go along with what they want to hear. So of like get rid of gun polls.

I agree, of course, that the cent (and nickel and dime) should be phased out but I've stopped caring about it. It'll probably happen some day when we get the career politicians out of Washington that have been there for decades.
The only use I have for cents these days is numismatic. If I get them in change, they go directly in my "to the bank" bowl. To be frank, almost ALL of my change goes directly to that bowl with the possible exception of quarters. I would rather receive change than carry it around and attempt to spend it. Quarters are occasionally useful, say for parking meters that don't accept credit cards.
Regardless, I make so few transactions with cash these days that any argument for or against the cent is a (personal) waste of time. Apparently enough people don't care or don't know that it costs more to make than it is worth.

If the argument is purchasing power than everything below the $5 should be eliminated. The real issue with the purchasing power argument is that if you really did follow it inflation will quickly run rampant

Specifically it is caused by government destruction and spending in excess of what they create and tax. Government wastes mountains of money but it's being masked right now by staggering increases in real productivity and much of government income being taken from the future in terms of various types and categories of IOU's. In other words pennies cause inflation and don't prevent it.

A tenth of a dollar is a perfectly good number for our smallest unit of change. However, to prevent the waste of throwing away 50 billion quarters we need a nickel to bridge the gap. Logically we need to withdraw the current nickel and replace it with something smaller and much less expensive. Aluminum would be a good choice so we don't have toxic metals like zinc in the environment.
