This box is just odd to me. Box of what appears to be 2018 D, all new obviously. One roll is short. Three rolls have older coins as 'enders'. I ended up opening two rolls and as expected all are 2018 D's, except two or three in each roll- they are older; 2014, 2016, 2017 P, 2015, 1990, 1996...
?
What shall I do with this box?

Interesting box. I would take it back, unless you are really into finding obscure/undiscovered varieties/errors or highest grades.

my guess would be someone has already carefully opened some rolls and pulled the best coins available, then replaced the ones they took with other cents..

Looking at some of the ends in the top photo, I think you are correct.

This looks like a low-potential deal.

Occasionally, I run into this with nickels, the box has predominantly one date & mint, but a few are mixed w/1 or 2 others. There's no guarantee that the hopper will be empty on the wrapping machine.

I've never had a shorted box, but I come across tight, 'bank wrapped rolls' of mint state cents (same date, same mint), with two or three older cents mixed in, more often than one would expect.

Last year--for sampling purposes--I opened 20 Loomis cent rolls from my stash which appeared to be filled with solid mint state coins--same year and mint. Six of the rolls had a small scattering of old cents, the other rolls were solid. Had a similar experience a few years ago with Loomis and other 'bank wrapped rolls'.

These were my thoughts, just leftover coins in the rolling machine.
