Most forums I belong to have each post in a thread numbered. It is a handy thing when you are quoting or referencing a previous post in a thread.
Does the forum software we are using allow you to number each post?
Thanks.

Good question - that would be very helpful.

Or go to the topic and click the rightmost icon in the string of them located directly above the first line of content. The rightmost icon brings up a window generating a link to that post. Doing so brings up this window: Click to copy - paste into desired post.

I think the question was whether each post can be numbered so you can reference a specific post in a thread, not the entire thread.

@Zurie The described button does link to the specific post within the thread. http://goccf.com/t/346592#2968329I'm not suggesting that it is the same as numbering though. I have been in forums that use the same framework as this one, but there is a quote button in each post that quotes the post, specifies the poster, and includes a link to the post. It is much more helpful than our quote feature here.

Quote: It is much more helpful than our quote feature here. No, it's not. It makes people extremely lazy. We had that here and almost every single topic by the second page had members quoting posts... Quote:...inside of posts Quote:...inside of posts Quote:...inside of posts Quote:...inside of posts Quote: ...inside of posts It was the most annoying thing I've ever encountered on the forum, ever, and I'm on a PC. If I was on a phone I can't even imagine.

Whatever you say boss. Actually, I know what you are talking about, and I agree that is a terrible implementation. I was thinking of a site where when you quote a user's post, it only quotes what they had written. If they had quoted someone else, that would not show up. If you wanted to see what they had quoted, you click a link and it takes you to the quoted post. If you wanted a series of embedded quotes as you had shown (which can be useful in a debate forum), you had to work a bit harder to get there. Its not the type of feature that you want people to use on every post, because that's just a waste of space. Its basically useful for those posts where you preface with @username, or where you use the quote feature now. Just to be clear, I'm not complaining. I'm happy to have this forum.

Very interesting discussion. What seems obvious isn't always so.
