Hello everyone!

So, I was looking through some pennies earlier and found one that I thought was curious. It is a 2007 D LMC and on the reverse the E on CENT has a corner that looks like it was cut off.

Can anyone tell me what this is? Is it just damage?

Thanks everyone! I was pretty sure that it was just damage but wanted to check just in case.

I still think it is weird that it was cut the way it was, kinda weird like they were using an exacto knife made for metal

So, what do you guys do when you are looking through coins? How do you decide which coins to look at and which coins to toss back into circulation? Do you examine each one?

Oh and can someone please explain to me what notching is when you are talking about double dies? I am finding it difficult to identify what a real double die looks like.

Are there specific aspects you check first?

Sorry for all the questions I am just trying to learn.

Incuse marks on a coin is most often damage. There are some events that are part of the striking process, but a very large percentage is damage on the coins. Note the mark on the TY on Liberty? See on the rim edge where that falls in line with that damage? Same is also true on the reverse on the 'E'. Thus why we call it damage to the coin.

Ohhhhh I do see it going to the rim! I understand so much better now thank you for helping me @coop! I really appreciate the information and advice. I could read about it all day but sometimes it takes someone explaining it to fully understand.
