F12 Fine - All letters in LIBERTY show. VF20 Very Fine - LIBERTY bold, including letter I. EF40 Extremely Fine - LIBERTY sharp. Corn grains at bottom of wreath show on reverse.
Using the grading guide (from Coin Facts) above, does it qualify as an EF ?

I used this explanation: Very Fine has a bold LIBERTY, including the letter "I". ¾ of the hair details will show. Leaves in wreath are worn but ribs are visible. Extremely Fine has LIBERTY showing sharply. There will be slight wear on the high points of the hair from the forehead to the ear. The corn grains at the bottom of the wreath are visible on the reverse. The high points of the wreath are lightly worn.
I think an EF would not have quite the wear on the obverse just above Liberty's forehead like this example shows. On the reverse there is some even wear throughout but the ribs of the leaves are showing, although the corn grains are quite clear.
Perhaps it's a case of the Obv being VF and the Rev being EF. That is why I went with an extended range of 20-30, so maybe VF+. Maybe if the pic was not a scan and an actual photo it would be easier to discern.

It's actually a photo. :) I agree that the obverse shows more wear than the reverse. I bought it at VF20 greysheet ask, knowing that it can go VF30 or higher.

Very nice looking coin. I'd say VF-30/35.

I do not think there is quite enough detail for a full EF grade but it is certainly Choice VF(30-35) and you definitely did good with Greysheet VF ask

Oh that IS a photo...sorry, my bad there. I can't get used to the way nickels photograph...even the best ones come across as kinda dull looking! Either way, at VF20 Greysheet price you got an awesome coin there! Congrats!

By the way, do you collect those or is that for a type set of some kind?

Is there a strike or worn die issue with these? The obv looks mushy compared to the reverse, the wear is inconsistent.

Oh yes, I love that collection of small cents you have there. That 1909-S IHC...is that around a VF30 or so? Love that one. Of course the Big Hoss Daddy is that Flying Eagle. That one is awesome!
