I just pulled this 19? LWC from a roll and it weighs 3.02 gms. Now the rim is full and not flattened but everything else looks like shadow except for a devise or two and the bust. If it were circulation wear and as much as there is missing it should weigh a considerably less than it does. What makes me think this is an adjustment strike is the rims on the obverse and reverse are intact and not flattened at all. Thoughts?

My gut says just damage despite the relatively untouched rims, but I'm really interested in seeing what others think. Hope I'm wrong!

Spence, that was my very first reaction upon looking at it. But when I ran it through the loupe there is a difference. The devises look Struck Through Grease but the cent also looks like an adjustment strike due to the width of the devises that I can see through the loupe. I don't think this is PSD due to the fact of what it weighs. I have BU coins that weigh the same as this one.

Jim, I think it's a major Greaser! You can see the blockage and how the devices widen from the blockage. It was Struck Through Grease. Very nice find Jim! A keeper and should go in a 2x2. http://www.error-ref.com/struck-thr...-grease-oil/

If you want, you could try giving it a bath in 100% pure Acetone.

Thank you, David! I am leaning toward it being a Greaser as well due to the fact the rim is intact. Definitely putting this one in the collection.

I think severe wear.
The rims are circulation wear cameo.

Here's my Two Cents . I think an adjustment strike would have weaker rims. I am leaning towards a Greaser. I would not use acetone on that one, might turn it white-ish. Maybe a very gentle toothbrush and very mild soap (only do that if you have a lot of practice under your belt)

With copper cents I stick to distilled water as it's non reactive and non spotting. Just 5 min soaks and dab dry to remove surface dirt, what will release without rubbing, wiping or scrubbing.
On the final soak just air dry with a fan or blow dryer.

I don't like acetone on coppers or other chemicals if you do it wrong it will make it off color.

Just distilled water soak and dab dry and repeat a time or two. If it doesn't do anything then harsher could be tried, but I don't have anything to say anything on that, you could damage the coin further.copper is really reactive. I'm sure some people have success with various methods, but I tin unless there's PVC contamination it's probably best left alone.

I think I'll leave it just as it is. I like the patina on it.
