1982 P Washington Quarter. Is This A Example Of Machine Doubling?

RandyR New Member United States 5 Posts	Posted 05/16/2019 03:39 am Started collecting about a week ago and I'm trying to be able to identify all the errors and what not. After staring at this coin for maybe 3 hours through a mag & I believe the coin has Machine Doubling. If I'm wrong let me know please and maybe why its not if thats not to much to ask. I have to agree with @john1 that none of your pics clearly show doubling. Perhaps you can describe where you are seeing doubling with the coin in hand? The obverse master hub was wearing out and that die was spreading outwards. Thus the devices were on the edge of the dies. (Like the 1968 cents) Here is the transformation as it aged: Note how the LIBERTY is moving towards the edge of the die. So even Machine Doubling could make the devices fall over the rim. The change over 1982-1983 So how can we remember this year 1982. Well the cents also had a change over this year as well with the large and small dates because of the same issue, but not as strong though. This year the devices were becoming mushy on devices.
