Hi Folks,

A pal of mine has this note and is wondering if it is offset enough to be considered an error.. I'm a coin guy so couldn't tell him. These are crops of pictures he sent me so I can't improve the quality much. What can you tell me about it?

This particular series, 1928 $1 United States Note, is notorious for having poor centering and uneven margins. It's still within BEP tolerances, and there's no evidence of an adjoining note present, so IMO it's not an error note. By the plate letter, this note would have been in the upper left corner of the sheet. Cool Funnyback design.

This one-time-only issue has an interesting background. They were printed in 1933 but not released until the late 1940s, and then in Puerto Rico, supposedly to avoid sorting problems with this oddly-colored note on the mainland.

There is a discrepancy in the issue totals that would suggest this possibility.

That's an interesting note. I have similar off-cuts and see a lot of $2 bills like that.

How in the world does something like that stay in ch-gem condition? In a safe thaat somebody forgot the combination? I get $2 in packs like that but they are to circulate (trying to do my part). Makes me think twice for the sake of my greeat grandchildren. (Although that would depend on my daughters ever having kids which is a bit of a stretch in my reckoning).
