PCGS - It's hard to beat the Seated Liberty design of the 1875 Twenty Cent, but this Sailor Head Pattern would certainly be a strong contender. The present piece is graded PCGS PR65 CAM.

This is probably one of the coolest coin designs I've ever seen. Hands down a gorgeous coin.

Fabulous pattern, undisturbed except for the toning.

It seems that this coin has been in a coin cabinet for many decades, and the resins or glues in the wood have toned the surface to what we now see.
At least, I don't see any cabinet friction, as many highly valuable coins in the British Museum appear to suffer from.

That is why so many modern collector silver coins are encapsulated or are in slabs.

Would it have a higher value, had it been blast white?

I agree with GrapeCollects: - The reverse looks too European 'minor coin' in style, at a time when the United States was making a strenuous effort politically, to be different from Europe.

Beautiful design.

For something like these being blast white would be more likely to lower the value than raise it.

Prethen, it's never been offered as far as I can tell. A PF64CA sold for 10.7k$ 2 years ago. So probably $18k is a fair value

According to my 7th edition U.S. Patterns, Experimental and Trial Pieces by Kosoff, a Reed/Garrett one sold for $17.500 in March of 1980. If that's any indicator.

Nice selection for posting.
