Definitely a type 1 Standing Liberty (1916 or 1917). There are diagnostics that can be used to distinguish between the two when the date is worn off. Even in the condition that yours is in, a 1916 has significant value while a a 1917 is worth little more than melt. If you search the internet for differences in the two, you'll find info on how to distinguish between them. I think yours looks like a 1917 but I'm no expert on SLQ's. Give it time and others will chime in.

It's called a Standing Liberty quarter . Too worn to have any value above melt unless it can be determined to be a 1916 . Nice find .

Thank you all ! More research I will do... I turned a couple filters on in my camera settings to see if it would help & it looked more like a 1916 but still not sure. I will take all advise and check into more. I will be back with more questions I'm sure. By the way I manage a Bar. lol that should explain.

From your photos, it is almost certainly a 1917 using the diagnostics posted by Mathew. Either way, that is an amazing to find at face value, let alone free!
