Okay guys/gals,

I've never seen this before. This penny is red on the obverse and brown on the reverse. Is this a valuable error and what causes this?

It was probably an ablum coin. It's a nice MS coin with the obverse in the RB state. The reverse just toned down to a BN color.

I would say a cleaned coin and then sad try at a re-tone job.

@103070, I can't comment on why one side is toned, but I would caution you to flatten the staples on your 2x2s so that they don't inadvertantly scratch adjacent coins.

My first thought was it was in a folder not an album. Most folders are lower quality then most albums.

Could have been a roll-end coin.

Whitman albums turn BU coins blue on the reverse sometimes.
