A family member gave me several coffee cans of LMCs. I glanced enough to see they are all dated from 1959 to 1977, generally circulated but planty of red-brown cents, some red. I already have better grading examples in this date range. Since I don't care to look through them all, I checked ebay and learned batches of these sell for less than their copper value, I suppose in part because of shipping cost overhead. I don't care to sell them here. If you were decluttering like me, would you just pour them into the coin counter machine?

Yes I would dump them for paper. Then again, I've no patience.

I have several suggestions.
1. If you have any kids or grand kids, give them to them with a copy of the Red Book
2. Wait until Halloween and give them out to kids instead of candy.
3. IF you know someone that is getting married soon, keep all your empty beer cans and fill with those pennies and give to the newly weds. I did once and they still have it over many years.
4. Near Christmas dump lots of them in those Salvation Army kettles.
5. Send to me but you pay postage.

I have a similar problem......
How to dispose of Liberty (Barber) quarters
with a full "Liberty"
Too nice for the melting pot but not much commercial value.

Let's see..
I have the option to sell for junk.
You have no such option..

Gee, take several deep breaths and dump them into a machine.
If it helps, there will be collectors happy to find them.
Your contribution to collectors everywhere.

Rest assured there is no great value in your holdings, just sentimental value. Unless you have the time to look at every one of them for errors..
Even then the effort may not prove worth it..

Best of luck...

I'd roll them up and take them to the bank. Who knows, you might make some roll searcher's day!

For matthewvincent - it would be very easy to sell rolls of Barber quarters on ebay. Advertise them as "full date" or "full liberty" and they will sell for more than melt value. Or sell them here.

You could perhaps contact one of the Elongated Collectors' websites. Elongated coin collectors prefer squashing pre-1982 copper cents rather than the zinc ones.

@matthewvincent. Agreed, I'd rather give those Barbers away than deal with ePay.

nick10: I'd pour them into a coin counter BUT only if I got a 100% return. You'd get less than 90% cash back from Coinstar. I have a savings account at a secondary bank that lets me drop coins for free; although I usually put 10% into my account to keep the bank happy, just in case. I then put the other 90% in my main bank so I can make my house payment at the first of the month. :)

Note to KenKat,
I have thought of selling them here..
But I have not participated in the group for a few years
and I do not sell online. Even so, it would be for a personal check
and without a means of taking good photos it is not likely to happen.
Gee, health concerns have me looking for easy solutions to my problems.

Roll them with a wheat on one side and a Mercury dime on the other and make up some story and sell on ebay. Of course they will be unsearched.

Just like this guy. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sealed-U-S...AOSw9jBc5zkG

Coin Star works well! I finally threw in the towel with my 5-gal pail filled with copper cents a couple of months ago. Had to take it apart in batches, darn near killed the machine once, the OS on it crashed. Got about $500 in Home Depot gift cards, no fee.

If you really want the easiest solution, get in touch with GC and see if they'll take them for auction and give them the freedom to group them how they want. It likely won't be the best way to maximize your return, but it should be pretty effortless.

Try selling them on ebay for copper value.
