Poll Question
For those that collect the uncirculated P/D mint sets I am curious as to how far back your collection goes (decade wise). The original set not a set that was put together separately. Personally, my collection goes back to 1959. Thanks

Official mint sets did not begin until I think 1947. Proof sets go further back.

The first official mint set was 1947. 1950 was skipped, as were 1982 and 1983. Mine goes back to 1959, though I am interested in the 1947-58 double sets. All it takes is money and time.

Technically, I'm a mint set destroyer... anything 1968 and newer I cut up.

I seldom buy the sets, preferring circulation finds, but when I do buy sets they are disassembled for the Dansco albums. I did buy the 2019 set for the W cent. Those coins went into their respective albums as per usual.

Every year from the 1955 to 2019 is as far as I've got. As issued of course. Get pricey beyond that so I took a breather. By the way, the 1955, 1960 and 1962 are unopened. Wonder what lurks inside? The envelopes are clean if that's any indication.

I don't collect mint sets, but I bought the set this year to get the penny (or should I call it the cent?). So their marketing gimmick worked! I also bought all the Kennedy half dollars, all the Franklin half dollars, all the Eisenhower dollars and all the Jefferson nickels in their mint cellos (cut out of mint sets by someone else). I also bought the 1959 mint set to get the Franklins but I don't have the heart to cut them away from the other coins.

My collection goes back to the late 90's when I started collecting in earnest. I will some day start working backwards and fill in the older sets.

My apologies for not catching it sooner...Welcome to the forum! And for renewing my desire towards more mint/proof sets. So, this is my latest consideration. Yes or no? I think it's a fair market price. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pristine-1...AOSwWhlc5rUJ

That's out of my wheelhouse as far as determining FMV goes but the coins look fantastic from the photos in the listing.

I only collect Mint Sets with Silver in them now. Finding some of the earlier dates can be tough though.

I too only get them so I can put high grade coins in my Albums.
