Came across this guy roll hunting... the date looked a bit wide to me, so upon further examination under my magnifier, I noticed the doubling on the date and on the "GOD". Is this just Machine Doubling, or have I come across a legit doubled die?
Thanks for everyones input in advance. Happy hunting!

It is neither. It is Die Deterioration Doubling. The area around the date and IN GOD shows heavy die wear.

Usually, by the time it gets to that stage, the star looks like anything but.

It's worth only face value but you could keep it for an educational reference. Now that you know what caused it if you run into another one one you can compare the two.

Machine Doubling on the SE quadrant of the obverse. Spendable.

can someone explain the process of Die Deterioration Doubling please? I understand Die Deterioration; the die weakens over time and devices become less defined and so on... but how does the doubling occur?

@1962penny, as the die fatigues it widens creating a Doubled appearance. Sometimes it it can have a mushy appearance, sometimes it can have a little bit of definition.
