Hello everyone,

I was wondering if someone can help me out. I bought a 1888 American (V) nickle for $8 bucks and was looking with my loop and was wondering if someone can tell me if this is a Machine Doubling or double die. Also it looks like it is a bit off on the rim at on the reverse and does any one know what grade this is and if this is worth grading. Here is the picture below with flash and no flash.

Have a great weekend everyone

Repunched Date (RPD)?

I am not an expert on Classics, so do not take my word for it.

High Bounce Doubling, which is a subtype of Machine or Mechanical Doubling. However that coin is in quite the grade. I'd personally put it at XF-40 a steller pickup!

I'd grade it at XF45...nice strong strike for a nickel.
It does not HAVE to be third-party graded...collectors of the series
know the coins well and would trust their own judgement.
Just WHO sold you this for 8 dollars? Obviously not a member of this group!

My response to this is to say, "Just HOW did this coin end up so far from home?"
Perhaps a well-to-do American was on a grand tour of Europe in the late 1800s.
5 euro well spent!

Could have been sent from someone who was from america to family back home. But if this coin can talk what stories it would tell. So this coin is like 100 bucks sweet! But since its off centre it would be less but for 8 bucks thats wicked

There are a couple of RPDs for this date, however, the other is considered rare

& is a DDO also.
