Looks like a classic early Whitman album tone, from the old blue folders that only have one side of the coin visible. Color mainly on the reverse as it is in contact with the paper (the older folders had a higher sulphur content). The newer ones I believe have a non sulphur paper backing.
Artificial toning will not follow the natural order of the visible light spectrum, think prism or rainbow, if you see colors out of order, then you can bet it's 98% faked with some sort of heat treatment or chemical substance.
