Just found this yesterday in my first penny box. It was easily the highest grade copper cent in the box, which was pretty nice since it's of course also the rarest business strike Memorial cent. I know it's not worth much, but I'm trying to train my eye for grading, so any thoughts on what this coin might grade/why would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks T-Bop, can I ask what you're seeing on the reverse?

Pictures prior to its life in a 2x2 would have been nice, can't see true mint luster, I'm seeing flatting of Rim Fin and big hits on the A in states and A in america on the reverse along with hits to the columns and wear on stairway "vases"..Definitly nice find from bank box...IMO AU-58

I'd go with AU-58 also. Nice coin, but too many hits on the reverse for MS, in my opinion.

Nice find! 1968S is the lowest mintage Memorial cent. Just a slight trace of wear, AU-58.

Obverse picture is blurry, reverse picture is clear and good. I'm going to have to go with AU58 by what I see here, the nicks and dings wouldn't take it out of Mint State, but I feel like (based on the amount of visible nicks and dings), if there was a clearer picture there will be slight wear on the obverse along the jaw to the Chin and on the highest point of the cheek from light circulation.
Now, if the slight rub along the jaw isn't there, I think it has a shot at MS63, and if it gets into Mint state I think it should qualify as a RD unless lighting is messing with the color in the pictures. Reverse seems to be very slightly off center, which I think precludes it from ever getting above a MS65 grade even in 1968, because of the weaker struck reverse, then downhill from there.
If color isn't quite accurate and this coin goes to RB and not RD... muted luster from coloration, the slight rub might be considered slight scuff and possible MS61-62-up to 63 I think.
only so much you can do with pictures, I don't think it's below AU58 and I don't think it can go above a MS63. I'd really like to see some more detail on the center of the steps on the reverse and the bushes on the left beside the steps, again, weak strike on that side I think, just not lined up perfectly to get a nice solid strike when it was minted.
Still a nice find from coin roll hunting though, just a lot of small factors piling up to knock it down, and the less than solid strike on the reverse blocks it from ever being above a MS65, even on the day it was minted.
