I have a 1939 s penny with a extra Mark that stands off
The wheat..? It's not a scratch or bump either...it stands

So far it is a die crack and a chip issue. Not a big error. When the die deteriorates a bit more, then it will be a rim to rim crack, the a Retained Cud and then a Cud.

As @coop noted, that is a nice example of a die crack. We seem to see them at this location with some frequency.

The left and right wheat stocks are apparently the stress points on the die, explaining why this area is so prone to Die Cracks and Die Breaks.

Yes, the die has cracked from the rim to the wheat, and then a chip developed by the edge of the wheat to the crack. cracks frequently chip along their edges.
