DL20K.....
Not to get off subject, but for a moment.... What are your thoughts on Russia threatening Poland and the U.S. Missle Defense System we are installing there ? Is Poland nervous about what Russia is doing in Georgia and possibly returning to their "old ways" ? Sorry, but I have been very curious to know your thoughts on all of that since you live right there !

Quote: a 3 part deal with Prethen Now that's complicated. Of course, if you would want any of these anytime, just tell me. There are many. On Russia, I don't really follow politics, but today I've heard that this time they're threatening to cut off gas supplies to Eastern Europe. Supposedly Poland has reserves for 11 days and building a pipeline to Norway would be the best solution. However that cannot be done in the matter of months and when you take into consideration the fact is that realising ANY new projects in Poland takes such a long time.. I don't see it happening anytime soon. Remember when they cut off Belarus' supplies about a year ago? So these threaths got to be taken seriously. By that time it was already clearly visible that Russia was repeatedly making use of old Soviet methods, that although not officially, but the communism is still there. The situation in Georgia only proved it. Now on to the US Missile Defence System, I (and possibly most people) support it. It also means that Polish army equipment will continue to be modernized. Poland won't be as defenceless. However, the "more terrorist attacks are possible when you have the System" is right. These may attract terrorists' attention. In addition, the System isn't placed ONLY in Poland. I believe in Eastern Europe, also the Czechs install/ed it. To sum up these unclear thoughts, people do look upon the events in Georgia, maybe not with FEAR but definitely with WORRY. I hear that in the world, people regard the Georgian "incident" as small-scale. But imagine if this escalates to other territories. In the late 1910s it also started with joining all the independent states ("republics") bordering Russia, and then it escalated in the form of the 1920 offensive towards the west. Maybe this comparison is too exaggerated. But it illustrates it all too well.

Yeah......interesting thoughts......and the idea of "an invading army" is not something to be considered "small scale"!! That's a real eye opener ! This military threat AND the pipeline threat are very very serious and concerning to me! I hope the United States keeps a strong presence in Poland and elsewhere in Europe to "off set" these re-emerging Communist tendencies. Your country and ours are friends and allies so...... I don't know why Russia thinks this is a good thing to threaten other nations like this. Why they are building Iran's nuclear plants I'll never understand. Why they support Hugo Chaves in Venezuela I can't understand. Why they are signing a "mutual defence agreement" with Syria I don't understand....... WHAT'S HAPPENING IN RUSSIA ?......I THOUGHT THEY WERE ON A GOOD PATH UNTIL THESE LAST FEW YEARS !

I fully agree with you. Until the last few years - before Putin came to power and the communist ways reemerged.. I think THEY think of it as retaliations - "the US is putting missiles near the borders, so WE (Russia) can't just leave it like this".. by supporting the states that aren't pro-US. Also their government still seems to regard Georgia and the other republics as an integral part of.. the Soviet Union?

PVC worries? Your coins in the albums, are they in a protective flip? Or are they just in the 12/20/30 pocket pages by themselves?

Oh I see we're back to the topic They are in nothing. Just as they were stored 10 years ago or so. Coins in pocket pages. Only these two above were in old 2x2s (now repacked) and proudly added as the first ones in my new Poland type set.

Can you get non-plasticized flips there? I didn't see them listed at E-hobby, but they are inexpensive, reusable, hold most any coin that will fit into a 2X2 and are the same size as a 2X2, plus will protect the coin from the PVC in the vinyl pages and keep them from inadvertently falling out if turned upside down.

I bet I can't. Never seen any flips for sale here. On the plus side, the two which were in 2x2s and all of the non-cleaned coins I've looked at don't seem to have any PVC signs. I'll order the 2x2s. I don't even know how many to get!

I like the idea of a denomination type set. Then you don't have to worry about specific dates, mints, or designs. Are there any other themes you might be able to do? Here's a page I was able to put together and the theme is Axis nations during WWII.

Here I come late again to a topic already on page two... Quote: So now I thought up a plan ... to pick the best of each type and make type sets of those countries I've already got. Sell the doubles or exchange them for missing types. Sounds like a good plan to me! I have plenty of comments about Russia, but I will keep on the topic with the coins...

Any early 1700/ late 1600 European coins in that collection by any chance... I have quite a lot of world coins, if you need any in particular I might have some :D

Hello,
Ken_3567, very interesting set you've got there! The German and Hungarian coin is there. The rest aren't, but it's generally this area (Europe, many 1930s).
thekidcollector, nope, the 1727 "Hamburger" is the earliest, then there is an unattractive Russian copper from 1730s, and then it's 1790s - several different. I'd have to make a list of what is there, and what types are obviously missing. I'll get to it in the coming week. But I still have the 1/2 grosz of unknown origin (c.a. 1500 if verified genuine). I could exchange that for any coin that's missing from my set.

Update! The German type set seems to be MUCH larger than the US one.. the Polish one also has quite a lot of types.. I found the 4 pfennig coin I knew it was there somewhere. Also, the 4 pence would need replacing. Very low grade with rims totally worn.. Found out that when I order 200 2x2s I'll get 100 extra. Guess that'd be enough for a year My efforts on compiling a type list.. https://goccf.com/t/34918

Wow, that is pretty ambitious. I've been trying to put together a 20th century Afghanistan type set of circulating coinage (no gold) for over a year now and only have 27 out of 154 coins. They're just plain hard to find in decent condition.
