Hi,
I am visiting Taiwan this summer and going to a LCS, my problem is that am I allowed to bring old silver coins like fatman dollar and Trade dollars out of Taiwan?

I'm pretty sure the odds are you are more likely to take out counterfeit / replica coins out unless you really know what you are dealing with.

Taiwanese law prohibits the export of "ancient coins", but I'm having difficulty tracking down exactly how old a coin has to be to be considered "ancient" unde the law. It probably doesn't help that we're looking at English translations of laws that are going to be enforced in Chinese. If I had to guess, I would guess 1912 (founding of the Republic) as the cutoff date - so "Fat Man dollars" should be OK, but "Old Man dollars" would not be.

If you're visiting a coin dealer, that dealer ought to know, since it's likely they'd have had to face that same question themselves many times.

I am going with a very good friend who is an expert in Asian coins and to a shop he recommends.
