Such a pity that somebody made a hole in this 1922 Penny, considering there is an 'N' under the King's chin and a rather strange double nose. Can anybody say what the hole was made by?

to CCF. The hole looks man made, with a drill. The nose/chin looks like a clash.

Sure is! You guessed right.
In front of the eye looks like struck through a tiny length of wire, probably part of a tungsten light filament.

Below chin: Can't quite make up my mind about this feature, but I will guess some sort of impact damage.

Thanks John1. It does look man made, but ....does anything like that hole EVER happen in a mint error?

I don't see how it would happen at the mint.

The raised rim around the hole is a sure sign that it happened outside of the mint.

Yeah that's Not Mint Damage. I don't think anything on the reverse of the coin could make a clash like that Sorry.

Actually, there is - it's a perfect match for the second "N" in PENNY (Don't forget, Australian coins are medal-orientation). So that part is definitely a die clash.

So it's a shame someone's gone and drilled that hole. Not that it would have been a particularly valuable coin, with all that green corrosion on it.
