The silver Maple in the Pride of Two Nations set has a "modified" proof finish. Can anyone please explain what this is?

I think it is referring to the "pattern of stars and maple leaves on the perimeter" circling the obverse.

Interesting to see how large the US coin appears to be compared to the Canadian coin - each @ 1 ounce.

The stars and maple leaves are laser engraved into the surface of the coin.
Thus the coin is not strictly proof.
I have seen on ebay some PCGS graded laser engraved 2018 maples with the designation Modified Proof.

It's an optical delusion, the US coin is only about 7% larger.
Size doesn't matter, the US coin only contains 30.999 grams of pure silver while the Canadian coin has 31.387 grams.

The US Mint has explained it:

Quote:
A proof coin features frosted inscriptions and images. The inscriptions on the modified proof finish coin have the same natural shine of silver as the other design elements instead of a frosted appearance, creating a "modified" proof finish.

As people spoke on the other resource, this limited edition set (only 10.000 Canada wide) was offered at RCM for CAD 185 (!) - and these are just two bullion 1oz coins.
But have been immediately sold out.

Together with this, the set offered also via US Mint - 100.000 units. The package slightly different.

This reminds me when we bought bullion coins from the F12 / F15 set, CAD 94.95 each, including standard ASE, Libertad, Philharmonics....

I ordered this set and thought I would share a few photos.

A little expensive? Maybe.

A good theme? Definitely.

I like it when neighbours get along.

Very nice images! Thanks for sharing!

I agree, it's an attractive set. I got one of the sets from the US Mint.
