Hello my name is John
I am new this form so please have patience with me. I came across a 1943 Mercury dime with possible errors on? Can anyone please be kind enough to shed some light on this? Not a photographer this is best I can do. Thank you

Maybe a broken die for the reverse? I am by no means an expert. There are other people here who have a wealth of knowledge about all sorts of things including what is going on with your coin. Anyways and good luck with it.

@JC11, first welcome to CCF. I hope that you find that the folks here are patient! Your pics are actually quite good, although generally you should take the coin out of the 2x2 before photographing to avoid glare.

This '43 dime has old toning on the front, although the toning has spots on it. Otherwise, I just see normal wear and tear from circulation. The back of this coin has several unfortunate scratches, but is not toned at all. Most likely this coin spent time in a Whitman coin folder such that one side was toned while the other side was protected. I also see a couple odd areas by the letter D in DIME and the top of the fasces. The latter may be a die crack, but I am not sure about the former. It may be a very oddly shaped Cud. For reference, look at CU-10c-1943D-04 at the cuds-on-coins website here: http://cuds-on-coins.com/winged-liberty-dime-cuds/ The coin pictured was minted in Denver rather than Philadelphia (like yours), but it has a similar vertical elongate defect. I will be interested to see what others think.

Looks cleaned and scratched with some nice obverse toning.

It looks like extra metal were added on the reverse, and got broken off, possibly used as a pin or cufflink.

A side picture showing at an angle around the questionable area would help to determine it.

I too think it was once used as an item like a cuff link or something like that.
