Not a Lamination. This is actually peeled copper plating. Cool find!

Yes looks like a plating issue to me.
Now the question is--any premium for this type of plating defect? With plating bubbles, the answer is no, but what do y'all think about this one? Or is it just a spender?

It is a piece of foil from another coin. If it was peeled off this coin, the color would still be copper underneath. It is covering the planchet. Probably the most convincing example I've seen.  Edited by coop

What intrigues me is there seems to be two splits running parallel. The obvious one and other running through and beyond the head. With the progress shown in the current images, neither are detached enough to speculate anything more than split or peeled plating. Thanks, Doug.
