First off, I am not a coin collector and know very little about coins. They have not been of interest to me...until now.

My 9 year old son was playing outside and found a coin. It is obviously not a U.S. coin, nor any coin that I am familiar with. It appears to be old. I am not sure what it is.

I tried uploading images to image searching databases, and downloading apps to try and identify it. Alas, nothing has turned up that looks close.

So, I have uploaded some pictures of the coin (if it even is a coin!) to this forum and I humbly ask for anyone's help in identifying this coin! I love puzzles and mysteries, but not ones that I cannot solve!

Thanks.

Yours is a very common replica of a Biblical Coin.

Correct; it's a replica "widow's mite". These items are mass-produced and sold in bulk by religious supplies stores, so that pastors and sunday school teachers can give everybody one.

Of course, long after the bible lesson is over, the "coins" remain, until they eventually get found by someone who has no knowledge of their original context. As such, they are a very common source of confusion here on the forums; we see up to half a dozen or so of them per year.
