@melda, no need to bump the thread after only 4 hours. Folks will be checking out your thread all day. My thought is that this is a repro of the silver coin, although it is pretty hard to read the coin when I enlarge and enhance your pics. How confident are you that this is actually gold and not just plated? Perhaps give us an exact diameter and weight? Added: here is a link to the numista page for coins with the phrase "7 mace and 2 candareens": https://en.numista.com/catalogue/in...&p=1&x=0&y=0

Better pictures of the small coin would help. I guess I'm just not familiar with a dragon coin gold having 7 mace and 2 candareens on it. Other than Kuang Hsu Yuan Pao inner legend I can't make out the outer legend as pictured. Trying to read the unreadable, the date in this coin could be 1884, 1894, or 1904. Part of one legend may suggest Manchurian Provinces. And as a double check, I still find no such gold coin with this design and size from such an emperor, from such a province and any of the dates. However, good quality pictures of both sides would get better information you are asking for.

I saw an NCG slab the other day with a 0.15g ancient - it looked like a gold pencil eraser in a sea of white.

Quote: Perhaps give us an exact diameter and weight? Based on the large copper having a diameter of 28mm, I get 10.5 mm for the gold coin. I'm having a harder time estimating the mass from here

I agree from my measure the piece is about 10.5mm. I get 10.575mm Check my math on the following: Assume a thickness of .5mm for the sake of experiment. The coin would be about 8.5g (.8478g) If the OP could tell us an accurate measure we could go from there. My opinion is that this piece is not in line with gold coins associated with the era that the legends denote. If not authentic, I would guess it would not be graded.
UPDATE: I may have not stated a previous post correctly. There actually were some small gold coins with dragons made, but I lack enough data regarding size and weight to know how it may compare to the OP. I came up with one possible close match to the OP coin, but we have no good pictures of the OP coin for comparison.
There is a present day plated copy-coin made in China, Foo-Kien Province that may be what the OP has. But the dragon side is not shown. It is a somewhat similar piece found as L&M 1084. The original is an off metal strike in gold.

"7 mace 2 candarens" is intended to be the description of the weight of the coin. It is the legend that shows on silver dollars, because the silver dollar weighed 7 mace 2 candareens (about 27 grams).
To find those same words on such a tiny coin, which clearly weighs much less than 27 grams, I would assume this piece is a "fantasy miniature" and not a genuine coin. As a replica, the slabbing companies will not slab it.

I see my blunder in my post where I typed 8.5g instead of .85g
