@martin, very interesting--this quarter looks to be separating along the clad interfaces. Do you have weights for both pieces?

Spence I do not have weights on these pieces..i plan to get scales soon to weight abunch of pennies out..ill add this to the list..and yea the reverse literally popped off on me a few years back when I pulled it from its first 2x2 to show my grandfather the edges..

Very neat. Great example of the "detail" inside clad coins where the clad layers meet. Shows how some of the detail is transferred to the underlying layers, by the strike pressure, not just on the surface.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

The dark color could also indicate the layer was separated by heat. We did that once in chemistry class with a bunsen burner.

I dont feel that was done that way in this case..and I'm sure its illegal to deface us currency..

Thats a good and pretty valued piece of knowledge..i kno a josh..and it sounds like the josh I know..i may have been joshed here..cool to see the inside of a quarter..so I will keep it..so noone else gets joshed

It's darkened and buckled...I'm favoring heat separation. As stated anything can be done to a US coin or paper money as long as there is no intent to deceive (think gold plated "V" nickels)...you can make Hobo coins, carve them out, stamp them and your OK. Not so in Great Britain and I assume the commonwealth countries, can't do that to the Queen's image.
