These 2 pictures show different backgrounds. One has diagonal lines across the whole coin, the other shows a mottled background. How are these effects produced?

Plating issues. The second pic might be a struch through thin layer of grease.

The 2002 ahowes what should be roller lines. If you look on the reverse and see similar lines then roller lines is what they are. These lines come from the coin metal stock being rolled to the proper thickness before the blanks are punched out

With the layered cents, there can always be an issue between the zinc core and the copper plating...i.e. bubbling
