2019 P American Memorial Park Quarter. Annealing Error Or Ed?

I'm thinking Evironmental Damage but when I look at slabbed annealing error quarters definitely some look like this too. Coin has full cartwheel luster that shines through under whatever this marking is. Here's the pics. I did it with 2 different lighting maybe one is better than the other. Truth be told ive never done acetone on coins and am kind of aprehensive about doing it not knowing what I'm doing. Report this Post to the Staff
Greasy Fingers Pillar of the Community United States 7068 Posts	Posted 07/09/2019 9:32 pm Big K..you got to start sometime..10 - 15 minutes in Acetone wont hurt it.Clad quarters are pretty tough and I've soaked pre 82 cents for up to 48 hours with no harm...have to be more watchful on zincolns,to long of a soak can cause black staining...start off with non errored coins and take timed notes...As far as this 25c, I too read the earlier post...and IMO all I'll say is and good luck.. Big-Kingdom Pillar of the Community United States 1667 Posts	Posted 07/10/2019 1:42 pm Thanks. Just never seen a coin in 13 weeks after release look like this, yet still have the cartwheel luster. Does anyone know if acetone would remove annealing staining? Or it absolutely wont remove it, Like if this coin missed the after annealing wash or something even, or maybe cooked too long, I have to assume the wash after annealing is done to remove impurities or copper from annealing from the surface. I'm not so much interested in going further and further trying to clean the coin, I tried distilled water and rolling a q-tip over it for some time and nothing changed. I have plenty of examples of new 2019P AMP quarters without these markings already, so no need to really try to clean off this one unless it would somehow prove conclusively it was an annealing process error, Pre-strike, if it didn't come off. I just don't know. I think given the right chemicals and time, I could make the whole coin disappear am I right? LOL Report this Post to the Staff
