First, None of us enjoy bearing bad news. When a coin is submitted for grading opinions, the best commodity any of us can offer is our honest feedback. In that spirit, as a fellow collector, I can only share in the honest opinions offered upthread. This coin has been cleaned harshly, and is no longer worth grading. At best, it would come back as either an AU Details or UNC Details coin.

1881-S is known for high grades, common. Yours does look harshly cleaned, but if it is heavy die polishing it still detrackes from the eye appeal. John1

If it's die polishing, I've never seen the likes of it on a Morgan. to the CCF!

I've also never seen die polish lines in the devices like that. Usually just in a more uniform pattern in the fields. That said, this one is strange to me because the lines dont seem to match up between the fields and face/devices. I have no idea what to think but agree eye appeal is not good. Probably very harshly cleaned.
