Weighs 0.58 grams. daimeter 16-18 millimeters.

Looks like an english penny, but why is it copper? I am not sure of the orientation.

@oriole, yes the first pic is upside down and the second pic needs to be rotated 90 degrees. I'm about 85% sure that this is from Medieval France, but not sure that I'll have a chance to look through my Roberts until this evening. If no one has solved this mystery before then, I'll take a crack at it.

Ok sorry for the delay, but I've got it now.

You have a Denier from the French Duchy of Burgundy that dates to between AD 1305 and 1315. It was issued by Hugo V and minted at Dijon. The obv legend (found on your second pic) is VGO BVRGVNDIE with DVX across the middle. The rev legend is DIV ION ENSIS. The attribution is Roberts 5784.

Perhaps someone else can comment as to whether the silver is a little debased on these coins? Mine are a little more silver colored:

The coin looks scrubbed. perhaps it was more of a silver wash.
